In Memory of Preuss Werner (VIDEO)
Werner Ernst Preuss began his life in Germany, on September 18, 1952, as the second child of Werner and Elsbeth Preuss. He is survived by older sister Renate and younger brother Harry. In 1954, when Werner was eighteen months of age, the family moved from Germany to Australia. He finished high school in Australia, and moved to New Zealand to find work. Not long after that, his father passed away. His father’s death inspired Werner to begin looking for the deeper meaning of life at the age of nineteen.
In 1978, while in New Zealand, he joined the Unification Church, and began to fulfill that search for deeper meaning. He was twenty-six at the time. Two years later, he joined the Ocean Challenge activities in the United States.
On July 1, 1982 , Werner was blessed in marriage to Kumie Kuritani at a small garden ceremony in New York City – Madison Square Garden; along with other two thousand other couples. Meanwhile, he continued to dedicate himself to the Ocean challenge and “Ocean Church” activities in Gloucester, Massachusetts until 1989. He was then assigned as a team boat captain in Florida. When that activity moved to another state in 1993, Werner began working as an automobile technician.
Five years later, he moved to Los Angeles to join Saeilo Machinery, U.S.A. He then continued to work with Saeilo Manufacturing Incorporated. In 2001, he began work as a service technician for a number of different machinery dealers. He was offered a job with Robinson Helicopter in 2004, and continued to work there until his health prevented him.
In November of 2007, Werner was diagnosed with a colon cancer. For twenty-six months, with the support of family and friends, Werner has continued to lead an exciting and fulfilling life. On Sunday, January 24, 2010, at 11:08 p.m. Werner peacefully reached the end of his physical life, and was embraced into spirit world with his loving family at his side.
Werner loved the ocean; he enjoyed sport-fishing and surfing. He also loved playing golf. He had a good sense of humor, loved to laugh, and was able to communicate well with many people and friends.
This morning we honor the excellent life that Werner has led, and we honor his wife Kumie and their children Andie, Emily and Jason.
