Godwin Macarius D'Silva was born on January 2,1958 to George D'Silva and Christina Fernandez D'Silva (originally from India) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The oldest of sic children, Godwin was raised the Roman Catholic faith and attended high school at the prestigious Victoria Institution. He won a scholarship to Oxford University where he majored in computer science. In 1979, he met the Unification Church and joined on September 16, moving into the Oxford C.A.R.P. student center where he lived for two years.
In 1980 Godwin came to the United State to serve as a missionary in Ohio and New York City, and later worked for Master Marine. From 1982, he worked as an accountant with News World Communications in New York City.
One July 1, 1982, Godwin was blessed in Holy matrimony by the Rev. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon to his beautiful wife, Darlene Antoinette Stewart. Their cross cultural marriage introduced Godwin to the soul food and soul music of Darlene's Detroit hometown and introduced Darlene to the richness of Godwin's Indian and Malaysian heritage.
In 1985, Godwin moved to Los Angeles to head up the accounting department and Meanwhile, Godwin and Darlene began their family life in Alhambra. Godwin cherished the birth of his daughter Priya on July 4, 1987, and the birth of his son Urian on November 6, 1989, and loved being a father.
In 1993 Godwin returned to religious and Interfaith work and became the state leader on Southern California for the Unification Church, ultimately becoming the first vice-regional director in 2000. With a desire to deepen his understanding and knowledge of Christianity and the world's great religious traditions, he entered the Unification Theological Seminary, first completing his Bachelors degree and Regents College, University of the State of New York, and then graduating from UTS with a Masters in religious Education in 2003.
Godwin became the southern California state leader of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification in 2003. He had helped to start the Ocean Challenge Project in Los Angeles and the CIty of Southgate's National Parent's Day program before attending UTS. He continued these effort and led numerous inter-religious, educational, community and social outreach programs.
In late 2004, Godwin discovered that he had colon cancer and began treatment. One of the most beneficial proved to be the faithful prayers of his beloved mother combined with her home cooking. No mater how challenging this health condition, Godwin kept his spirit strong and continued the highest levels of providential work. He participated in the Middles East Peace Initiative, helped organize the world tour events of the Rev. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon in India and Malaysia, and continued developing the Universal Peace Federation's Ambassadors for Peace program. One of his proudest moments was presenting the crown from India to Rev. and Mrs. Moon at the opening of the Cheon Gyeong Gung.
Godwin passed away on February 12, 2007 at 1:23 a.m. at home surrounded by his beloved family and friends. He will always be remembered for his beautiful smile which reflected his deep heart of faith, love, loyalty and openness toward all.
He is survived by his beloved wife Darlene, his daughter Priya, and his son Urian and a huge loving extended family, including his mother, Christine D' Silva; five siblings and their spoused and children; Darlene's mother, Quincy Stewart; and Darlene's brother and sister and their families.
